  1. Windows 95 and Windows 98
  2. There are two versions of ERS98 please read  notes first:

  5. Notes:

  7. 1) If you downloaded the 2.2 MB version then read below for additional
  8. notes, the 2.2 MB one has the VB5run included in the setup.
  9.  
  10. 2) The 665 KB, has the ERS Setup wizard and doesn't include the
  11. VB5run.
  12. Please read the "Reinstall" section found below for reinstallation. 
  13.  
  14. 3)Before ERS98 will run, you must install the ERS VB5run kit, its  
  15. included with the 2.2 MB version, or you can download it at
  16.

  19. 4)Note: If you have a command line in the Autoexec.bat to delete Win95
  20. temporary files in the C:\Windows\Temp upon startup then the VB5run 
  21. update will not take affect if it prompts you to restart computer because
  22. the computer DLLs are outdated.
  23. Remove the line from the Autoexec.bat when you are installing programs
  24. that requires a reboot.

  26. 5)Note: If while installing you get the message"Unable to find Choice.com",
  27. this is an important file to have, download at:

  32. INSTALLATION
  33.  
  34. ERS does not make any modifications or entries to the W95 Registry, 
  35. nor  to any Win95 System files files. It will simply make the new ERS 
  36. directories  and copy the necessary ERS files into the appropriate
  37. directories, while adding an ERS Shortcut to  the Start menu.
  38.  
  39. Unzip and place ERS files into a temporary folder, double click 
  40. Setup.exe, and select the desired drive and path. Then click on the  
  41. "Install" button.
  42.  
  43. The ERS setup wizard will make one main Ers98 folder, and one other
  44. separate folder called "1Ers" in the root directory of your hard drive C:\
  45. The 1ERS folder is placed in the boot drive C:\, where the restoration
  46. batch files will get created once you do backups.
  47.  
  48. ERS.bat will be found in the "C:\ "directory, it contains information
  49. about your backup dates, reminder on the restorations command
  50. and your added notes to the backup. 
  51.  
  52. If restoring from backup Just type ERS OR ERS.bat at the Command 
  53. Prompt and it will automatically change directory to the 1ers folder.
  54.  
  55. Although it does not overwrite any existing files, ERS Setup Wizard
  56. will copy Attrib.exe from the Windows\Command directory, to the root 
  57. directory of  C:\, and the self registering Stkit432.dll, Dzip32.dll, 
  58. Dzocx32.ocx, Dzstat32.ocx and Oc30.dll to the 
  59. C:\Windows\System directory. Regwzrd.ocx for the Shareware version.

  61. REINSTALL:

  63. Is a feature only available with the 665 KB download and has the ERS 
  64. Setup Wizard, recommended for reinstallation.
  65. When reinstalling, don't delete the previous {older} Ers98 directory,
  66. nor the ERS98.exe. Merely selecting the "Reinstall" command, it will 
  67. update and replace all files and recreate any missing folders, while 
  68. keeping your previous {old} backups safely intact.
  69.  
  70. When reinstalling select the "Reinstall" button if you are reinstalling to 
  71. a previous installation.Take care  to see that the correct path to the 
  72. previous installation is shown in the path window.

  74. UNINSTALL:
  75. *********

  77. WARNING: DO NOT... use any third party software to UNINSTALL 
  78. any version of ERS.
  79.  
  80. To remove {uninstall} ERS correctly, simply delete the entire Ers98
  81. directory. And if they exist, delete the shortcut found in
  82. C:\Windows\Startmenu\Programs, the AutoErs.lnk in
  83. C:\Windows\Startmenu\Programs\Startup
  84.  
  85. Also delete ERS.bat and the 1ERS folder from the root directory C:\. 
  86. There are no ERS registry entries to remove.

  90. if you rather do that.

  92. I suggest you keep the VB5run update file because it will work with 
  93. other VB 5.0 applications that call for it. But if for some reason you 
  94. need to remove it, go to the Control Panel\Add Remove Programs 
  95. and uninstall the ERS VB5run update.

  98. Below applies If you downloaded the 2.2 MB version

  100. INSTALLATION:

  103. The only difference is, Visual Basic setup wizard used instead of the 
  104. ERS Setup wizard and the VB5run already included.
  105. Read all above for general information about ERS. 
  106. Extract to temporary directory and double click the Setup.exe.
  107.  
  108. TO REINSTAL:

  111. Read the above Reinstall section and use the ERS Setup Wizard. 
  112. Download the 665 KB version from http://www.mslm.com/ers.htm 
  113. which has the Reinstall feature.

  115. UNINSTALLING the 2.2 MB version:

  118. To Un-install, go to the Control Panel \ Add Remove Programs, scroll 
  119. down to ERS98 and click uninstall, if for any reason it will not install 
  120. then delete the Ers98 directory, 1ers folder and the Ers.bat in C also 
  121. delete the shortcut to the Start Menu, and if you have added Auto backup 
  122. to startup then delete AutoErs.lnk, you will not get any error messages 
  123. after you do that.
  124. I suggest to follow the uninstallation described above as for the ERS setup
  125. wizard.
  126. Again don't use third party uninstall software to uninstall any versions of 
  127. ERS.

  129. Windows 98:

  132. If you are installing Windows 98 on top of Windows 95 then, before going
  133. any further, click Options\Update ERS for Win98. That will replace old Win95
  134. MS-DOS files in the 1Ers folder with the new Win98 MS-DOS files.
  135. Then delete all backups made in Win95.
  136. If you think that you want to go back to Win95(doubt it), save couple Win95
  137. backups, be sure to note it.

  139. If accidently restored from Win95 backup, just re restore from Win98 backup.
  140. If you are installing ERS98 on top of Windows 98 then you are ready to go.
  141. Read the Win98 restore section.

  143. Where Win95 is mentioned it applies to Win98 too.

  145. After Installing ERS98:

  148. Once ERS98 program is opened you will be prompted to select
  149. shortcuts names.
  150. Click the Done button if you are new to ERS.
  151.  
  152. Otherwise read the instructions below.
  153. (for advanced users)
  154. If later on you decided you want to change your mind, 
  155. this what you can:
  156. Either delete every thing and Install all over, 
  157. that is, ERS98 directory, the 1ers folder, ERS.bat
  158. in C and the shortcut to the Startmenu.
  159. Or
  160.  
  161. If you have backups that you don't want to loose but like
  162. to change the shortcut names then,
  163. Delete shortcut in the StartMenu, delete the ERS.bat in C,
  164. delete Shortcut.dat and Marker.txt in the ERS98\Ersfiles 
  165. directory, then double click Ers98.exe, select shortcuts names etc,
  166. now copy all restore batch files from the older directory 1Ers to the
  167. new folder, let us say 2Ers then delete the 1Ers folder.
  168. Remember that ERS.bat get recreated every time you close ERS98.
